It is true that the invention of Mr. Goodyear has been largely used, both in England and France ; but, he never received any income or emolument from that use. He was unjustly deprived of all benefit of his invention in England, by its unfair appropria- tion by Thomas Hancock, who secured a patent therefor ; and who subsequently testified that the first vulcanized India-rubber which he had ever seen, was several samples which Mr, Goodyear sent to England, for the purpose of selling his inventio...n there.
