Pour off this solution and disca...rd it, as it will not answer for future use ; now wash the prints thoroughly by frequent changes of water for 20 minutes (which can be done in the same tray), and after all the free silver is eliminated, place the prints in the toning bath, which has been freshly prepared by the following formula : Gold I grain Water 24 ounces Table Salt 5 grains Carbonate of Soda 5 grains The Gold is measured by taking one ounce of the "stock" solution of Gold previously mentioned. Test the alkalinity of the bath by placing in it a strip of red litmus paper, which it should turn blue; if the paper is not Primer: The Printing.
