What reading level is The Pilgrimage of the Ticonderoga book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

The population is composed principally of Spaniards, Malays, negroes, and Chinamen. During six days of the week the city presents quite a lively appear- ance ; on the seventh, it being a Christian country, no labor is allowed, that day being religiously set apart for cock-fighting and prayer — a moral and religious obligation rigidly observed by the people.
Manilla also boasts of some very fine chapels and an ancient cathedral ; a new one, now far advanced towards completion, when finished, wil
...l be all that is costly and gorgeous. All that the country wants is a fair chance and her energies property directed, and in a short time she will vie with the mother country in the production of cathedrals and paupers.
That part of the city known as " Old Manilla" is for- tified, but the usefulness of the walls is gone, and only remain relics of the past, for now the greater part of the city is outside of them, yet they are still kept garrisoned. As a fighter the Spanish soldier has some weak points, but as a sentry he is a success — nothing outside of an earthquake will move him.
