What reading level is The Political Problem book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
If we are to ex- pect wise legislation and efficient supervision of public affairs at the hands of the popular assem- bly, its members must be free — to form and utter each man his own individual opinions, to take part 126 THE POLITICAL PROBLEM. in free public conference, to be influenced by free public argument, and to agree, without fear or favor of any individual, or body of individuals, outside the assembly, in a common conclusion. Publicity, in its modern sense, political day- light, is th...e surest protection for the people. Bribery statutes do no harm; they never have done much good. But the real protection against briber}^ and corruption must be found in free- dom — and publicity, with real, substantial respon- sibihty to the jpeojple. These combined will puri- fy the political waters, and will produce a more highly educated standard for official action — in time. It will take time, but not a very long time, as times should be measured in the lives of nations. But we must bear it well in mind that honesty never yet was the child of slavery — even in gov- ernments.
