Mr. Alexander William Robertson started a small pot- tery in Chelsea, Mass. , in the year 1866, for the manufac- ture of brown ware such as was made in Great Britain, and of lava ware similar to that of Germany. Two years afterwards Mr. Hugh Cornwall Robertson, a younger brother, who had served an apprenticeship at the Jersey City Pottery in i860, was admitted to partnership in the business, the firm name becoming A. \V. & H.
