To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Ed- ucators and patrons have realized that the whole spirit of the country school has been such as to educate away from the farm toward the life of the city. The introduction of ag- riculture as a public school subject has helped very materially to crys- tallize the movement toward revital- izing the curriculum of the rural school. By means of agricultural instruction, the boy of the farm can be educated in terms of his en- vironment. He can be prepared in a very specific manner for that en- vi...ronment in which he finds him- self and for the life on the farm which he expects to follow. The school Code of 1911 made the teaching of agriculture in town- ship high schools obligatory. In these high schools agriculture was at first taught as one subject among many in a crowded curriculum. Possibly the most important result of the introduction of this subject in our high schools was the fact that it proved conclusively the need for more efficient training along ag- ricultural lines in the secondary schools of the open country.
