What reading level is The Recent Development of American Industries book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

He went to the Slaters, in Rhode Island, and proposed to build them a set of looms, but business was dull at the time and his offer pushed aside; but in the spring of 1816 he was given an order for twelve looms, which were working by May, 1817.
The manufacturers of Massachusetts, and afterwards of New Hampshire, adopted the plan used at Waltham, and which was known as the Waltham system. It consisted of the cam-loom, the dead spindle, the double speeder, worker, Waltham dressing-frame and filli
...ng-frame. The Rhode Island mills had a different system, which consisted of the crank-loom, the tube-speeder, the Scotch dresser, the mule and live spindle. The latter system was superior, and was at last used in preference to the, other, its loom being used at Waltham about 1827, and its mule in 1830.
This preference was due to the fact that one system was the work of a practical business man, who knew the needs of the industry, while the other was the work of ingenious mechanics, who had no great practical knowledge of the re- quirements of the industry.
