I must observe, however, that though the in- stances of quitting all pretension to religion for ever are sufficiently numerous to put evciy one who bears the Christian name upon the strictest guard against the first step towards it, yet the dreadful procedure ought not to be considered in any case as unalterable till after death, be- cause till death has taken place, that cannot be known.
