This cosmogonic my- thology occurs again in the epic and all the Puranas, with an endless number of variations in detail, but such as do not affect the system, which remains the same at bottom. Throiigli their eclectic and monotheistic tendency, these books contributed to the formation of a certain orthodoxy in the bosom of Brahmanism.
