Mr. Williamson of North Carolina, Mr. C. C. Pinckney of South Caro- lina, and Mr. Baldwin of Georgia. On the 24th of August this committee reported the clause in the fol- lowing form. " The migration or importation of such persons as the several States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the legisla- ture, prior to the year 1800. " In the fore";oinu: debates we see no want of zeal in favor of the slave-trade, on the part of tlie South, and no indifference on the part of the North with regard to the tslave-trade, or slavery in general.
