Indeed, from her well known cautiousness in speech, we doubt not she was accustomed to offer the prayer : " Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth ; keep the door of my lips." Another trait which distinguished the deceased was frugality. This important virtue held a con- 23 spicuous place in her character. It ever sat en- throned in her household. Did she not exhibit a rare degree of practical wisdom in the manage- ment o...f her domestic affairs ? Nothing was al- lowed to be wasted. Nor would she make any unnecessary expenditures. She studied economy.
This was, with her, no low, selfish trait, but a noble, a governing principle. She practised econ- omy as a Christian duty. She felt that all she had belonged to Gocl. Hence she was frugal, not for the sake of hoarding, but that she might do the more to promote the higher interests of her family, and to advance the cause of her blessed Master.
She was one who set a high value upon time.
