He has had a long conference with the Earl at Worksop on his son's embarrassed affairs before the middle of July. * About three weeks later he repairs again to the old man at Sheffield, carrying with him a letter from Lord Talbot, to whom he immediately transmits a report of their interview. He found the Earl much eased of his gout, and very glad to see him. When dinner was done, every body rose except himself and his lordship. Sir Henry then delivered Lord Talbot's letter, and retired to the w...indow, where he stood watching the Earl's coun- tenance as he read it; which he did attentively, and then, Sir Henry proceeds, " rising from the board, with more colour in his cheeks than ordinary, he led me by the hand into his withdrawing chamber, where he told me he did well perceive the contents of your letter; that you had been long a disobedient child unto him; that you joined and practised against him, and with such as sought his overthrow, and, conse- quently, your own undoing, and the espials and parties you had in his house did show your care to be more for that he had than himself; but, withal, he knew you had many good parts, but those overruled by others that should be better governed by yourself.
