The rooks, the sculptured caves, the valleys green, Sent back his dying cry — "Alas! Shi- reen ! " THE POMEGRAKATE- TREE. The legend goes on to relate that the handle of the axe flung away by Ferhad, being of pomegranate wood, took root on the spot where it fell, and became a flourishing tree: it possessed healing powers, and was much resorted to by believers long after- wards.
