What reading level is The Seas Shores of England book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
This is Laugharne (spoken Larni). The castle which gives such an exceedingly feudal appearance to the ancient port does not belie the impression it makes. For Laugharne is still feudal. In fact its feudalism has saved it during more than one failure of industrialism. In the little town hall where they keep Sir Guy de Brian's original charter locked up, the cor- poration, with recorder, port-reve and bailiff hold a court (no longer competent to try criminals) at regular intervals, opening the pr...oceedings with that familiar Norman tag, "O yes I O yes! O yes!" A quaint survival you may say; but there's more behind it. The land round Laugharne is cultivated on the mediaeval strip system, as in the days of good Sir Guy. It does not, however, belong to the lord of the manor but to the burgesses of Laugharne, about eighty in number. Each burgess holds fifteen acres in strip, free, for the duration of his life. Anyone who is born in Laugharne and has lived there for a stated period can establish a claim to burgage when a vacancy falls due.
