O yes!" A quaint survival you may say; but there's more behind it. The land round Laugharne is cultivated on the mediaeval strip system, as in the days of good Sir Guy. It does not, however, belong to the lord of the manor but to the burgesses of Laugharne, about eighty in number. Each burgess holds fifteen acres in strip, free, for the duration of his life. Anyone who is born in Laugharne and has lived there for a stated period can establish a claim to burgage when a vacancy falls due.
