The Punahou School had its origin in the wants of the children connected with the families of the American Mis- sion in these islands. Burdened with pastoral cares, the parents found themselves unable to devote the necessary time to their children. To send them afar off at a tender age was both unnatural and inexpressibly painful. There grew up, therefore, in this garden spot a school-home which has formed a very important part of the missionary establishment.

Beckwith, who for the last three years has served our Royal School with such marked success. Brother Damon, the Vice-President of our Board of Trustees, will administer the oath of office.
