But whoever places the Novum Organum (1620) and the Encyclo- pedy De Augmcutis Scientiarum (1623) of Francis Bacon side by side with Mr. William SJiakespeares Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies (1623) must certainly regard them as kindred works, inasmuch as all three appeared in the same stately folio-form. Since that time industrious scholars have collected whatever emanated from the pens of Bacon and of Shakespeare.
