' And suiting the action to the word he grasped one of them in his brawny hands, lifted him into the air as easily as though he had been a mere child, and hurled him clear over the bulwarks into the water.

But the wily fellow had taken the precaution to rub... his body liberally with oil, so that he was as slippery as an eel, and they could hardly hold him, let alone toss him overboard.
Uttering strange cries, he fought them with sur- prising strength, considering his seemingly slender frame, and although neither of them would for the world have confessed it, they both rather regretted that they had tackled him.
In the struggle they became separated somewhat from the rest of the combatants, their confused movement working them towards the stern, and at last they landed in a heap close against the curve of the taffrail.
