The curve joining the various points shows at a glance the whole variation of the freezing-point as the solution is strengthened. Such a curve is A c, which was constructed from experi- ments on a solution... of potassium chlorate. On the same diagram we can also place the curve B c, which indicates the amount of the substance that can be dissolved at the various temperatures. These two curves intersect at c, and evidently c stands at the eutectic temperature. For that point is on A c, and 164 FREEZING OF SOLUTIONS therefore tells us that ice is forming ; it is also on B c, which is the curve of the saturated solution. In other words, c is the point at which the solution is both saturated and freezing.
