Can we be surprised that the pious Fenelon, then a simple Catholic ecclesiastic, but later Archbishop of Cambrai, having occasion to refer to the dragonnade, could not help saying that by such proceed- ings it would be as easy to convert a people to the religion of Mahomet as to make them Catholics!
