That he did land there can be very little doubt, and that he had with him a German by the name of Tyrker is an estab- lished fact. This man on landing noticed that the vine grew here as it did in his own country, and called Leif the Lucky's attention to the fact; Leif, in order to please his friend, and also to have a name for the place, called it Vinland.
