The decision was that the State of Connecticut has no right to the land in controversy. This decision did not effect the individual claims of those who had bought their property of the Susquehanna Company. This fact was not made known until long afterwards. After the decree of Trenton Zebulon Butler presented a petition, for the people, to Con- gress, asking that a commission be appointed to determine their rights. This was not granted. Tlie new constitution was adopted and the federal court su...cceeded to all the jurisdiction vested in the special court of commissioners. It is conceded that Connecticut wanted concession of western lands, and to secure them made con- cessions to the rival claimants. The people in the valley had the state troops straddled on them. They robbed, outraged the women, and acted more hellish than the Indians ever had. The people were poor and lived in huts. They were trying to raise crops and to provide themselves with clothes. A i^etition was presented to the Assembly of Pennsyl- vania for a righting of the wrongs they were enduring and for the appointment of a commission.
