When combined with nuts or chocolate in candy, sugar assumes a still more important role in the diet, for such combinations add fat and protein values, which, in connection with the carbohydrate of the sweet, provide what might be called a better bal- anced ration. This is particularly true of milk chocolate, which within the last twenty years has become almost the leader among popular confections.
