Fathers Carroll and Crinnon, in additio...n to the priests already named, fostered the growth of their church in London, and paved the way for the establishment of a bishopric there, while missions and parishes were being established in various parts of the settlement. Though there were many Presbyterians among the settlers who had made their homes in the settlement in the early days, especially in the townships of Aldboro' and Dunwich, they were without the full ministrations of their church until shout 1830. Young couples desirous of marrying trudged on foot through the forest to Port Talbot to be married by Colonel Talbot, in his capacity of magistrate, and then home again, over what would have been many a weary mile of wilderness, were the occasion a less joyful one, their friends frequently accompanying them on their wedding journey.
