It is a good vermifuge. In sensi- tive stomachs it should be given in very small doses as it is intensely bitter and in large doses might cause nausea. Dose is from 10 to 30 minims. BUTTERNUT. The bark taken from the body of the tree or roots, and boiled down till thick, may be made into pills, and operate as a powerful emetic and cathartic; a syrup may be made by boiling the bark and adding one-third molasses and a little spirit, which is good to give children for worm complaints. The buds and twigs may also be used for the same purpose, and are more mild, (i) BUTTERNUT. Juglans Cinerea. (Dr. Greer. ) The inner bark of the white walnut tree has an im- portant place in the Materia Medica.
