(10) The porticus Maximae. One of the most important streets in region IX was that which led from the neighborhood of the theatre of Balbus to the pons Aelius. During the reign of Gratian, Valentinian, and Theodosius, about 380 a.d., this street was provided with a colonnade, the porticus Maximae,^ which extended from the Aelian bridge to the theatre of Pom- peius and connected several of the other" porticoes in this region.
