When workers are asked to work harder, to produce more, to increase output as the cant of to-day puts it, it is easy to back the demand by argument apparently conclusive. If more be pro- duced there mil be more to distribute, prices will tend to come downi there will be more for the world to live upon and live better upon. (The point that wages will tend inevitably to come down also is not as a rule urgently pressed, for obvious reasons.
