Representatives of the society from several of the States are present here to-day; the ancestors of many of them were here with Washington on the 26tli of December, 1776.
It is meet and proper that the monument here erected should have some reference to a society as ancient, patriotic and honorable as the one described, and accordingly I have been directed, on behalf of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Jersey, to tender to you, as President of the Trenton Battle Monument Association, the tablet which I have unveiled, and to ask its acceptance.
