Long-standing rights were overturned. Forty- five towns had long been free. But six of them were spared. All else were put under princely beggars. Frankfort, Augsburg, Lubec, Bremen, Hamburg and Nuremberg only remained inde- pendent.
Prussia, Bavaria, Wurtemberg and Baden, whose rulers were friendly to Bonaparte and Alexander, were enlarged by the great robbery.
