These material accounts may be carried in the genera...l ledger but it is preferable to handle them in a separate ledger con- trolled through one or more general ledger accounts. Like material accounts, labor accounts may also be carried in as much detail as desired, but should be kept in control with actual expenditures. This can easily be done by crediting the charges against all labor cost accounts to a controlling account which may be called Wages Accrued accounts, the debit to which will be the amount of pay-roll checks as entered in the cash book.
