One of the leading doctrines, and that which is the foundation of all the rest, is ; That there is one living and true God; That there is but only one ; and that he is a Being of infinite, ' immutable, and eternal per- fection. It is not, therefore, to be supposed, that the three Subsistences, which have been rnentioned, (Chap. 12) are three conscious agents or three distinct intelli- gent beings ; for this would be the same as to suppose, that there are three Gods, instead of one.
