That eminent man, startled, exclaimed, ' Do you know who I am ? I am the Lord Justice-Clerk ! ' But the undaunted gamekeeper 268 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF ST. ANDREWS replied, * I don't care a straw whose clerk you are : clear out of this ground.' Lord Moncrieff had long been Lord- Advocate : and had passed several measures through Parlia- ment which were not popular in the Kirk.
