We’d get up in the morning, have a big breakfast, and go to church until the early afternoon. Daddy never missed a Sunday. But this one Sunday, I got a taste of what it felt like to be the subject of the gossip—or at least related to the subject.
My phone rang at about one o’clock, the time that the late service normally ended.
