What reading level is Utilization of Wood Waste book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
At the time of writing the previous article a large plant was in operation in the South, using the sulphurous acid process. One reason for failure was given that the digesters being lined with lead could not be made to with- stand the acid. There was also some trouble dis- posing of the residues. There is a possibility of o\ercoming most of the troubles of these processes and if alcohol can be produced at from 5 to lOc per gallon without considering plant depreciation it is to be hoped that a w...ay will be found soon to do this. A description of a plant using the sulphuric acid pi-ocess is given below. The plant was erected of a size to treat 100 cords of sawdust per day with the expectation of producing 1, 200, 000 proof gallons per year. The s&wdust and hogged wood is obtained from a saw mill near by. The hogged wood is chipped so as to get it as fine as sawdust if possible. The saw- dust is carried to a bin directly over the digesters. The digesters are globular in shr. Pe and made of steel.
