“Hello.” My voice is hoarse.
“Cereus?”
“Dad.” My voice breaks “Baby, what’s wrong?”

“I killed him, Daddy. He’s dead behind me.”
Silence and then, “Where are you?”
“In my bathroom. I can’t get up, there’s too much blood.”
His intake of breath is audible down the line and my hand begins to shake again.
