In this connection also I would call attention to what is said in the interest- ing letter of Gen. Such a current, being necessarily in exact equilibrium with the air above and below it, would yield to the slightest force, and it may easily be conceived that the concussion produced by a number of cannon fired simultaneously would cause it to bend upward.
