1-6 mortar of each of the test specimens was made from regular torpedo building sand, 'n ordinary tin cake dish , 9 inches in diameter and l/2 inch high was then roughly lined with this mortar ; which was made of such a consistency that it would just stand up well when plastered along the sides of the dish. Another tin ^ inches in diameter and 3 inches high was then pressed down into the first and rotated , resulting in the formation of a dish of 1 - 6 mortar ; 8 inches outside diameter with 1/2 inch wall and bottom.
