To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
"When diazobenzene nitrate is added to a cold solution of acid potas- sium sulphite, the liquid solidifies to yellow crystals of potassium diazobenzene sulphonate, C 6 H 5 . N 2 . S0 3 K or C 6 H 5 . N : N. S0 3 K ; this salt, heated on the water-bath with excess of acid potassium sulphite, is converted into colourless phenyl hydrazinsulphonate, C 6 H 6 . NH. NH. S0 3 K, which is also formed by heating the former salt with zinc-dust and hydrochloric acid ; and this colour- less salt heated with... hydrochloric acid yields the hydrochloride of phenyl hydrazin, according to the equation : C 6 H 6 . N 2 H 2 . S0 3 K + HC1 + H 2 = C 6 H 6 . N 2 H 3 . HC1 + S0 4 KH. SULPHO-DERIVATIVES. 481 It is most easily obtained * by dissolving 10 grams of aniline in 200 g. Of strong hydrochloric acid, cooling the solution, adding 7 g. Of sodium nitrite dissolved in about 50 c. C. Of water. To this liquid, which contains diazo-benzene chloride, is then added 45 grams of stannous chloride dissolved in an equal weight of hydro- chloric acid.
