After her father's death, she pays a visit to Jeanie, in the hope of tracing her lost child who, (Meg Murdockson has confessed) was not killed but sold to the bandits. Sir George also takes part in this search, and in an en- counter with these outlaws is slain, and it is believed, by this same unknown son.
The boy, an untutored savage, escapes cap- tivit...y through the connivance of Jeanie, and sails to America, where he joins an In- dian tribe and is lost to view.
Lady Staunton eventually ends her days in a convent. Jeanie and her husband live quiet but happy lives, with their three chil- dren.

Scene: Various parts of England and Scotland.
