On the death of Thomas Hoo, intestate, Sep- tember 25, 1791, his heir-at-law had to be dis- covered. Reference has been made to Mar- gareti sister of John Hoo, of Bradley, the pur- chaser of the manor of Wednesburv. This Margaret married William Bendy, of Shut End, Kingswinford (a son of William Bendy, a counsellor of Lincoln's Inn, died 1684), at Wil- lenhall, on Maj 9, 16
...86: a record of which mar- riage appears in the Tipton Registers. The Bendy family had been settled at Kingswin- ford for many years. In 1643, during the troublous reign of Charles I., we find a Mr.
Bendy, of Kmgswinford, on the side of the Parliament, acting as one of the Committee for the County of Stafford, and voting for the demolition of Stafford Castle (Shaw, Vol. I., p. 63). The Bendy's seat for many generations was the picturesque house at Shut End; their arms are engraved on Plot's map as then residing there.
