The Garter Is rep- resented In Its usual place, on the left leg. A colossal monument by Nollekens In memory of Three Captains, commemor- ates William Bayne, Lord Robert Man- ners and William Blair, all of whom fell in a naval engagement in ...the West Indies in 1782. Contrast this lurid call for 159 Westminster Abbey admiration and remembrance with the modest stones and simple inscriptions to Browning, Tennyson, Dickens and other men of genius buried within the church.
