Further, in many places they are training young men and women for service in their own lands, equipping them with the best technique and ideals that the West knows. In China especially the modern medical and nursing professions arose out of the ef- forts of missionaries. The first dean of a nursing school anywhere in the world was appointed by the trustees of a Chris- tian institution in Central China; and what is still the best medical school in the land is officially Christian and has on its board representatives of missionary so- cieties.
