In France we have noticed Oughtred's notation for proportion in Franciscus Dulaurens (1667),^ J. Prestet (1675),^ R. P. Bernard Lamy (i684),3 Ozanam (i69i),4 De I'Hospital (i696,)s R. P. Petro Nicolas (1697). ^ In the Netherlands we have noticed it in R. P. Bernard Lamy (i68o),7 and in an anonymous work of 1690.^ In German and Italian works of the seventeenth cen- tury we have not seen Oughtred's notation for propor- tion.
