Quite recently (January 1900), Sig. Emilio Guarini, of Trani, has shown that it is possible to extend greatly the useful range of the Marconi form of receiver, by using in conjunction with it a peculiar form of " relay, " or, as Guarini calls it, " repeater. " This would appear to consist essentially in a very delicate form of relay (see 30, Fig. 30), in conjunction with a coherer ( 18, Fig. 8), which, on receiving the impact of the wave or waves from the trans- mitter, automatically closes the... circuit with another coil battery and transmitter, and thus retransmits the message to a greater distance.

We gather then, from the foregoing r&umd, that to no one man alone is due the merit of having placed a new means of signalling at a distance within our grasp ; but, rather, that the intelligent application of isolated discoveries by such men as Nolle t, Faraday, Henry, Righi, Preece, Bezold, Hertz, Branly and Lodge, has enabled Marconi to perfect that system now known as " Wireless Telegraphy.
