In addition to this, the BritishGovernment, shortly before the war, invested $10, 000, 000 in acquiringcontrol of the Anglo-Persian oil fields, which is the principal sourceof supply for oil fuel for their navy. By this means they avoided therisk of great American corporations cornering the supply of oil fuel andholding up their navy.
