These conditions were promptly met by the passage of a special act of the Legislature, and the southwest corner of Washington Park was selected as the most appropriate site. It is proper here to record the high appre- ciation with which the residents of Yonkers received the splendid gift of the donor, whose good works of a similar character not only extend over this continent, but have crossed the ocean as well. The building is now under construction, and will ■be completed by June, 1903.
